But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy. For you bless the godly, O Lord; you surround them with your shield of love. - Psalm 5:11-12
At Evergreen United Methodist Church in Wahpeton, North Dakota, the congregation is growing, both as individuals and as a church, by living out their purpose to SERVE God and others: Sharing together, Encountering God, Reaching out, Volunteering their gifts, and Educating each other. The ministries through which the church serves God and others in their community continue to evolve and change, but they are committed to discovering the journey to which God is calling them.
Evergreen UMC hosts many church and community ministries and events throughout the year. Children and youth ministries, Bible studies, UMW gatherings, worship, community meals, AA/Al-Anon groups, community choirs, and more all use the church building throughout each week. Last year, the church decided to switch their Sunday school activities to Wednesday evenings, and also started providing a community meal each Wednesday before the children’s programs begin. In addition to their onsite ministries, Wahpeton UMC enhanced their worship with new technology, made their church building more accessible, and extended their community outreach.
With all of the activities happening at the church, comes the wear and tear on the building. Church leaders discovered that the both church building and the Zion Chapel building, which is used for many of their programs and meetings, had major condensation issues. These leaks have caused damage to the roof, walls, and doors of both buildings. The Zion Chapel requires new vents, insulation, sheetrock, and some new shingles. The main church building needs to add central dehumidifiers and a new air exchange to address the condensation problem.
In order to continue hosting their weekly ministries and groups, the buildings need to be properly maintained. Keeping the buildings in good condition means the Evergreen UMC can spend less time and energy focused on fixing or cleaning up these spaces, and more energy focused on the mission and ministry of the church to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”
We are so grateful for your continued support of the Builders Club and ask that you prayerfully consider a gift of $25 or more to support Evergreen UMC. The gifts for this call we be received until December 31, 2020. Please send your gift to: Builders Club, Dakotas United Methodist Foundation, PO Box 460, Mitchell, SD 57301. Or donate online.
We can’t express enough how much the generosity of the givers to the Builders Club means to Hilltop UMC. The funds have been used to fix many major issues in our basement. Windows have been replaced, new flooring put down, and water issues have been addressed. Thank you for your generous gifts and helping make our basement a much safer and updated space for the youth of our church!
