The Dakotas Conference Historical Society will meet on Wednesday, June 6, 12 p.m., in Sioux Falls prior to the 25th session of the Dakotas Annual Conference. The guest speaker will be Rev. Dr. Timothy Eberhart. He will speak on “Gott Ist die Liebe: Reflections on the EUB Tradition for Today.” A short business meeting will follow a meal and the program.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the union of the Evangelical United Brethren (EUB) with The Methodist Church in the formation of The United Methodist Church. Garrett-Evangelical professor Timothy Eberhart, a grandson of four EUB grandparents, will reflect on the ongoing theological and social contributions of the EUB tradition and its Pietistic roots for the church and world today.
Timothy Eberhart is Assistant Professor of Theology and Ecology at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. He teaches in the areas of theology and ethics, concentrating on the relation of Christian doctrine to environmental, economic, and political theory. He earned his Ph.D. from the Graduate School at Vanderbilt University, his Master of Divinity degree from Vanderbilt Divinity School, and his B.A. in Religion from St. Olaf College. His publications include Rooted and Grounded in Love: Holy Communion for the Whole Creation (Wipf and Stock, 2017) and The Economy of Salvation: Essays in Honor of M.
