Happy Helpers, a group of ten women from Parker Methodist Church meet once a week. The group has have been busy since December knitting hats and scarves for South Dakota Special Olympics and others who might need a scarf or hat. The knitters try to make enough for each person in Special Olympics, around 150.
Last winter, a husband to one of the Happy Helpers, Lyle Schneider, saw what his wife was doing. He picked up a knitting loom and got "hooked". It's a non-traditional role for a male in the female-dominated knitting world. Lyle made over 50 caps last winter while watching television. He could hardly wait until December to get started again and has already made over 75 caps.
Lyle's caps and the caps the women get done have been sent to Parker elementary school, two Sioux Falls elementary schools, Bishop Dudley Hospitality House, the Banquet, and Special Olympics.
