Labor Day is a big deal in Wagner, South Dakota. The community claims to host the "world’s best Labor Day celebration", which can be a daunting task. This year was the 115th Labor Day Celebration on Sept. 5-7, and Wagner United Methodist Church was part of it.
This year’s celebration included a new event based on the TV game show "Minute To Win It." Contestants were Wagner locals representing area businesses and playing for a $1,000 prize that was given to a local charity. Other events include Wagner’s annual Labor Day Queen Contest, Saddle Club Rodeo and Labor Day Parade.
Wagner United Methodist Church served almost 400 people during the Labor Day Festivities in Wagner on Monday, Sept. 7. Taverns, pulled pork sandwiches, chili dogs, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw and homemade desserts were on the menu. The church has been providing this ministry for almost 20 years and it always brings in hungry parade watchers.
