Task Force Listening Sessions

Task Force Listening Session are happening in January/ February 2022. Our goal in these conversations is to listento listen for the common themes the Holy Spirit is bringing to the surface amidst Dakotas United Methodists of varying backgrounds, demographics and perspectives. Our next step as a task force will be to collate this feedback into a document that articulates our shared vision and values that will guide us into the future. Our hope is to present a draft of this document at Annual Conference 2022.

 1)    In this new season of the church, what should the mission of the church be? Who should the church be serving?        

 2)    As you consider the needs of your community (however you define community), what do you think the church most needs to be and do in order to be a blessing in/for that community? What is the primary barrier to doing that work effectively?        

 3)    Is it important to be connected to other churches as part of a denominational body? If so, in what ways (e.g., resourcing, accountability, polity, structure, finances, etc.)? If not, why not?        

 4)    Do you know what the Dakotas Conference of the UMC is? If so, how would you describe what it does/why it exists?        

 5)    Is being United Methodist an important aspect of your faith and participation in your local church? If so, why? Why do you value being part of the UMC/Dakotas Conference?        

 6)    If you could pick two things on which the Dakotas Conference should focus its energy in the coming years, what would they be?        

 7)    What does it look like to be renewed as we follow Jesus into the next season of mission and ministry for the Dakotas Conference?
