Report by Gail Brock, Hitchcock UMC Lay Leader
HITCHCOCK, SD - Special Events and a special guest made Feb. 1st a 'souper' day at Hitchcock UMC. During the morning worship service, South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley spoke about some of the tragic abuses that happen to children and families in our state. He encouraged all of us to be vigilant and to continue to work in the faith-based community to recognize and address problems and issues affecting children.
This was Laity Sunday for the church. Laity from age 2 to adult ministered to the congregation through song, scripture, and liturgy. In place of a children's sermon, the children led the congregation in singing Hallelujah. Following the worship service, the Sr. High Youth served the Mission Soup Luncheon. The Missions Committee and mothers of the youth prepared the meal. The effort raised $1100 to be used throughout the year for mission projects in the community and in South Dakota.
We had a lot of fun with our “SOUPER BOWL” event. Attorney General Jackley did a great job, and helped make it a really super day.
