UMVIM Team Leader Training (TLT) – Huron First UMC, Jan 30, 2016. Events Starts: 8:30am – 1:30pm. Cost: $27.00, includes manual and light lunch. Trainer: Lorna Jost, UMVIM Coordinator, North Central Jurisdiction. (Feb 13 will be alternate date, if weather interferes.)
This approximate 5 hour training equips individuals to lead national and international teams to approved United Methodist project sites. It touches on what constitutes an UMVIM team, team duties and dynamics, cultural understanding, team spiritual formation, tips for travel and fundraising, timeline for organizing a team, forms and insurance options.
The main reasons to become a trained team leader are:
To Do NO Harm while serving with others
To Do Good while serving with others
To Stay in Love with God while serving with others
Leading a mission journey is not a game to be taken lightly but a covenant to enter into with God and the Host community as we practice sharing and mutuality in mission. There are so many facets to the experience and people do not need to go into it blindly nor do they have to reinvent the wheel! We do not desire to “control” as much as to help facilitate the process of volunteering when training team leaders.
Team members or those considering leading their own team in the future would also benefit greatly from this course!
To register contact Judy Thompson, Mission and Outreach Chair, 1123 Illinois Ave., Huron, SD 57350, C: 605-354-0777, jurothompson@hur.midco.net. Register at least one week before the training.
