Builders Club Fall 2021: Oakes UMC

“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did: ‘Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.’”
- Romans 10:17-18

Oakes United Methodist Church in Oakes, North Dakota wants to be a place for everyone to feel welcome and experience God’s love. As a congregation, their mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ, and to grow in their own faith so the Oakes community and world will see the love and grace of Jesus through the Oakes congregation.

As a small congregation in a rural North Dakota town, Oakes UMC realizes they may not be able to bring in a lot of new people to their church. However, they are committed to deepening their own faith and sharing that faith with their surrounding community to ensure others know they are loved, accepted, and cared for by the Oakes UMC. The congregation has a long history of involvement in mission projects, especially with collecting and sending the various UMCOR kits.

Throughout the years, the roof has faced the wear and tear of the North Dakota elements. This past spring, the church was hit especially hard with several heavy hailstorms. The hail caused severe damage to the roof that caused it to be ‘totaled’ as deemed by the insurance company. Because of this, the roof on the Oakes UMC had to be repaired, replacing damaged support lumber and re-shingling the entire roof.

The replacement of the roof will allow a safe space for the Oakes UMC congregation to continue to learn and grow together in their faith and service, so they can carry on with their mission to go out and share Jesus with those in their church, community, state, nation, and world.

We are so grateful for your continued support of the Builders Club and ask that you prayerfully consider a gift of $25 or more to support Oakes UMC. The gifts for this call will be received until December 31, 2021. Send your gift to Builders Club, PO Box 460, Mitchell, SD 57301 or donate online.

Parker UMC thanks you . . . . $9,000 granted!

I would like to thank you on behalf of Parker United Methodist Church. Our church is so appreciative of the generous givers to the Builders Club. Our roof has had many issues over the years, and we had flooding damage to the pastor’s office and the main entry. Our church decided to replace the roof instead of repairing it.  The cost of replacement is quite a bit. With your generosity and that of the congregation we have raised roughly 40% of the expenses for the project. Without your donation to drive us we would not be at the point we are today. The gift is a true blessing for us.

We are humbled by the faith you have put in our in our church to help us reach the community and offer them the love of Jesus Christ. We will continue to update you on our success and progress before and after our improvements are completed with the donation you have graciously given us. God is truly at work in our church and community. With all the love we have in our hearts through Jesus Christ we thank you again.

Sincerely,
Rick Andrus
