I am pleased to introduce you to Christy Heflin our new site director at Wesley Acres Camp and Retreat Center.
Christy was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. As a child/youth, she was involved in scouting, camping, church, youth group, and loved traveling. She received a Bachelor of Arts of Christian Education/Elementary Education from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA in 1993. During her college years, she worked at Jumonville United Methodist Church Camp as an adventure camp counselor. It was there she felt called to full time camp and retreat ministry.
Since her graduation from college she has been a teacher, youth director, and camp director. She met her husband Jim in a singles volleyball group at her home church in Pittsburgh and was married in 1999.
In 2001, she and her husband moved across Pennsylvania to Camp Innabah in Eastern PA. Christy has been the director there and her husband has had a variety of positions in the camp since their employment. As the director, Christy has worked hard to raise over $700,000 to renovate the camp by rebuilding 12 cabins and much more.
They are truly blessed with two children Spencer, age 7 and Bryce age 4 1/2. Jim and Christy are excited God has called them to Wesley Acres Camp and Retreat Center and meet lots of new people. Their first date was fishing, so they are excited to live right on the Bald Hill Creek!
Christy and her family will be moving to Wesley Acres in late November. Be watching for more details on opportunities to meet Christy, Jim, Spencer and Bryce.
Special thanks are extended to Sean Binder and Virg and Teresa Whetsel for the outstanding work they have done at Wesley Acres Camp and Retreat Center this summer and fall as the transition leadership team.
Becky Holten, Dakotas Conference Director of Camping and Youth Ministries
