“Faith is kind of like a church potluck. Everyone brings something to share; everyone fills up with what they need. There are always leftovers, so you don’t have to be shy with your giving, or you’re taking.” These are the words that Trinity Schroeder wrote in a blog post while serving as an Elisha intern at Dakotas Wesleyan Campus Ministry and Fusion Church in Mitchell, South Dakota. Read the entire blog.
Schroeder grew up in a family that loved the Lord. “My parents were not Church goers. They were believers and doers of the Word. Growing up with that influence, I knew Christ at a very young age,” Schroeder wrote in her application for an Elisha internship last spring.
Fast forward one year, and Trinity, an Elementary Education major at Dakota Wesleyan University, finds herself more in love with God and has a deepened desire to answer God’s call for her life.
During her internship, she has helped to lead small groups for DWU Campus Ministry. One night a week, students gather in the Wagner Chapel on campus, where they begin with a devotion and then split into two groups—freshman and upper-level students.
She also assists with the weekly chapel service sharing her musical talents. In November, she delivered the sermon at chapel. Schroeder spoke about her experiences as a nanny and with preschoolers to emphasize the scripture from Romans 5:1-5 that references God’s justification and righteousness.
“Paul says that we are justified by faith. Therefore, we can rejoice in the glory of God. We can choose joy,” Trinity said during her sermon. Watch the sermon on Facebook at 11 minutes 30 seconds.
At Fusion Church, Trinity helps with children’s ministry.
Churches need passionate young leaders like Trinity. Young leaders need opportunities to discover their gifts for ministry.
Encourage someone you know to apply for an Elisha internship. The mission of the Elisha Project is to support our Culture of Call with our students and provide an environment to uncover prospective ministerial leadership for our churches and other ministry settings in the Dakotas Annual Conference. The Elisha Project is an internship program that allows students to explore, discern their call, and discuss where God is calling them with mentors and peers.
Students who have completed at least one year of college completed the application process and are selected by the Elisha committee will be assigned to a church and mentor. Applications are being accepted until March 1.
Please note interns will not necessarily be assigned to their home church or the church that recommends them but to a church and mentor that fits their needs and interests.
Interns will begin their journey at Annual Conference in June. Students will attend and represent their host church during the Annual Conference as young adult lay members.
