Heading to parking lots in Sioux Falls’ urban core on dark and cold evenings, feeding those Allen Herrbolt can and offering a willing ear and a bit of conversation to any interested in sharing their story.

The Nightwatch Canteen brings food to the people where they are, on a day when a free meal can be hard to find. The mobile food service depends on dedicated volunteers like Herrboldt, who prepare sandwiches and hot food, load them into a vehicle and venture out Sunday evenings with nourishment and open arms.

Argus Leader Media is providing a boost to the Nightwatch Canteen this holiday season. Donations to its Lend-A-Hand charitable giving program will help the Canteen and its volunteers bring weekend meals to families and children.
