Does the winter have you wondering if there is any sunshine and fun? Are you ready to learn more about Jesus? Your United Methodist Camps are excited to announce that registration for the 2019 summer camping season programs is now open. Program information and registration details are available online, and brochures are available at your local church.
“We’re eager to share this summer’s camping opportunities with our families and churches,” said Keith Shew, director of camp and retreat ministry for the Dakotas-Minnesota Area. “Your camping ministry team, in collaboration with many volunteers, is eager to provide events for all interests throughout the 2019 camping season. Each event helps campers explore Christian faith and discipleship, experience community and hospitality, and develop as leaders, all while providing a safe place apart in nature for growth and reflection."
Dakotas United Methodist Camps offer programs and experiences for children, youth, families, and adults at three beautiful locations: Lake Poinsett Camp and Retreat Center, Arlington, SD; Storm Mountain Center, Rapid City, SD; and Wesley Acres Camp and Retreat Center, Dazey, ND. Lake Poinsett and Wesley Acres are accredited by the American Camp Association. Storm Mountain Center is seeking accreditation this summer. Campers and guests are invited to experience Christ, Creation, and Community through camp and retreat ministries.
The 2019 Bible Study theme will be Peace Works. This newest summer camp curriculum resource from Inside Out, provides a fun, enriching, spiritual, and biblically based camp experience for campers of all ages. From Bible studies about the biblical call for justice and peacemaking, to learning about how other cultures name and express peace around the world, Peace Works will educate and empower campers to become peacemakers in their communities. Creative arts projects such as peace cranes and peace poles will help campers express their personal hopes for peace and connect them to larger movements for peace around the world.
Peace is a prayer for some and a life’s work for others. It’s a blessing we share and a longing within each of our hearts. Scripture is filled with stories of peace and justice, and camp is the perfect place to share them. Peace isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth the effort; because we know that peace works!
The online registration system allows access to everything from financial information to medical forms directly from our website at dakcamps.org. Each of our camps offers online registration for most programs, making it easy to register for a favorite or to find a new one to attend.
