TULARE, S.D.— Over 40 kids and volunteers gathered at Tulare United Church to honor one of the most famous superheroes — Jesus. A remarkable turnout, considering there was no vacation bible school last year in this South Dakota town. Children were found all around town wearing their superhero capes and singing about the love of Jesus.
About one-third of the children in attendance do not regularly attend Tulare United Church. Bekah Ihnen, the mother of three children who attended, orchestrated the entire week.
The children and volunteers performed three new songs with choreography they were taught during the week. Penny Innen led the musical experiences for the week.
Parents were thrilled with their children's experience. Here are some of the comments from parents:
"I heard my first grader saying the scripture in bed that night."
"She wore her cape to T-ball."
"He loved the obstacle course and Jackson playing a barking dog."
Jesus is now everyone's superhero, thanks to the efforts of Tulare United Church. Pastor Lorah Houser Jankord said, "After not having VBS in 2016, we were thrilled to offer it this year and hope we never go a year without it again!"
