The Gathering, in Fargo, North Dakota, is a new church start of the Dakotas Conference and Fargo First United Methodist Church. “We call ourselves The Gathering because we meet with people where ever they like to meet or gather,” said Rev. Cody Schuler, The Gathering.
Currently there are over 70 people gathering for worship. This past winter and spring worship was held at “The Stage at Island Park”. The community theater building has several spaces including a theater and a pavilion. Schuler describes, “We find the pavilion has been most inviting space for us to hold worship. People can view the park and nature as part of worship.”
This summer worship is being held at Linwood Park. Worship is held inside or under a picnic shelter area throughout the park each Sunday.
The Gathering is more than worship. Small groups meet throughout the week in coffee houses, restaurants, and homes.
Another event that some of the members enjoy is a “Beer and Hymns.” Folks get together sing and discuss faith at a local bar. “It really provides a connection for people who have become disconnected with church, “ stated Schuler.
