Did you know the UMC has its own news agency? The agency, UM News, based at United Methodist Communications in Nashville, has a staff of reporters and editors, photographers, web designers, film crews, and more around the world, and also relies on the communicators from each of the denomination’s 129 Annual Conferences, a bit like news bureaus. One of the ways UM News gets the message out is to communicate is through episodes of the "Get Your Spirit in Shape" podcast.
In this episode of Get Your Spirit in Shape, host Crystal Caviness interviews Tim Tanton, Chief News and Information Officer at United Methodist Communications.
Tim said, “Being well-informed is essential to the church. And it’s also essential to our lives as individual people of faith. We really can’t be effective or relevant in the world today if we are not well-informed. When the coverage is unbiased then you know that it can be trusted. So, whether it’s good news or bad news the church needs to know that it’s getting reliable and thorough information.”
Listen to Tim’s perspective on how we get our information, both from within the church, and from outside the church, so we can tailor our ministries ‘to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.’
