The twenty-ninth session of the Dakotas Annual Conference was held June 9-11, 2022, at the Bismarck Event Center in Bismarck, North Dakota. It was an in-person event after two years of virtual and hybrid annual conferences. More than 475 United Methodists from North and South Dakota experienced inspiring worship, meaningful learning, and conducting business. Racial Justice Prayer and Action Challenge | Begins June 19
Beginning on Juneteenth (Sunday June 19, 2022) we will post daily prayers on social media for six weeks. We’ll also include weekly challenges to help you put your prayers into action. R-Squared — a resource hub by GCORR, challenges you and your church to join us by doing each of the following: Pray with us each day. Clergy Well-being Grant | Apply now
The Dakotas-Minnesota Area offers this new grant of up to $1,500 to support clergy well-being. Examples of what this grant can be used for include a health coach, spiritual director, gym membership, creative arts experience, retreat, hiking boots, and more. Apply now here.
Mission u | Register by June 30
Mission u, described by many as one of the most impactful spiritual and mission growth experiences, is welcoming participants back to in-person events this July—but with some new twists! Southern Site Mission u, held on the campus of Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD, will be Friday, July 15 to Sunday, July 17; Northern Site Mission u, held at the University of Jamestown, in Jamestown, ND, will be Thursday, July 21 to Saturday, July 23. There will also be a virtual option August 11-13 for those not yet ready or unable to attend in-person. Get the details.
Social Media day | June 30
United Methodist Communications will celebrate Social Media Day on Thursday, June 30, 2022, highlighting the many resources the agency provides to help churches maximize their social media potential. Over the past few years, churches have adopted new ways of connecting through social media. John Haney – Senior Training and Development Specialist – will host a special live learning session on Facebook Groups at 12 pm CT at Facebook.com/UMCom.
Jurisdictional Conference Scheduled | Nov. 2-5, 2022
In response to Judicial Council decision 1445, the Council of Bishops (COB) has formally set the dates for regular sessions of the Jurisdictional Conferences of The United Methodist Church (UMC) to be convened November 2-5, 2022. Each jurisdiction will determine how many bishops will be elected in their areas. See the full press release here.

Celebrate Juneteenth | June 19
On June 19, 1865, two-and-a-half years after the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect, federal troops under the command of Union Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas. They brought a life-changing message for the estimated quarter-of-a-million slaves in the state: “All slaves are free” and entitled to payment for their labor. This important day in history became known as Freedom Day, or Juneteenth, now a U.S. federal holiday. Take a look at ways to celebrate.
