Lorna Jost, UMVIM-NCJ Coordinator, will lead United Methodist Volunteers In Mission (UMVIM) team leader training at Emmanuel UMC, Ashley, ND, 1:30 – 5:00 p.m. on October 23, 2016.
This Team Leader Training (TLT) provides individuals and churches with all the information and tools that are needed to participate in or lead a hands-on mission for your own regional experiences and for national and international teams to approved United Methodist project sites.
The main reasons to become a trained team leader are to live out the three goals of UMVIM work: 1) To do no harm. 2) To do good. 3) To stay in love with God.
Leading a team is not to be taken lightly but a covenant to enter into with God and the host community. It is an opportunity to practice sharing and mutuality in mission. Photo: Lorna Jost is known across the North Central Jurisdiction for her mission leadership training and experience.
“There are so many facets to the experience and people do not need to go into it blindly nor do they have to reinvent the wheel! We do not desire to “control” as much as to help facilitate the process of volunteering when training team leaders,” Jost says.
TLT focuses on what constitutes an UMVIM team, team duties, team dynamics, cultural understanding, team spiritual formation, tips for travel and fundraising, timeline for organizing a team, forms and insurance needed.
Training is based on standard North Central Jurisdiction UMVIM curriculum and the General Board of Global Ministries UMVIM Training Manual that will be available at a cost of $20.00.
